This is a bold watercolour painting of a spray of Pionciana flowers or as we call them in South Africa Flamboyant tree. Each year around Christmas they would flower giving both my warm climate southern hemisphere homes that warmth of red and green for Christmas.
The colours pop next to each other and are brought together with a bold inked line. I often use watercolour and ink for its bold graphic qualities to help translate beautiful photographed still life images into painted illustrative forms, making observations of shape, texture and bold colours together.
